Celine appoints Hedi Slimane as Creative Director
Hidi Slimane stepped down from his controversial yet successful time at Saint Laurent having been Creative Director for over five years. It was announced this month that he would start his reign at Celine this February and debut a collection at Paris fashion week in September. Watch this space!
Slimane has previously held tenures at Dior Homme and Saint Laurent. As Artistic Director for Saint Laurent, Slimane was praised for his efforts at modernizing the previously traditional label by infusing a more youthful, rock and roll ascetic. His critics, however, believe his efforts resulted in cheapening the brand. Image Global Blue
Dropping the "Yves"
In 2012 after being appointed as creative director for Yves Saint Laurent, Slimane wasted no time in rebranding the French house. He shockingly axed Yves, and changed its font into something more clean and modern.
We're sure there is not much that can be done to the Celine branding to make it more fresh and modern however we are uber excited to see what artistic vision Hidi has for Celine and wait with anticipation for his collection in September
